Bergen County is excited to welcome and work with Teaneck for their 9-1-1 needs

Bergen County starts Answering 911 Calls for Teaneck

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco has announced that the County of Bergen has formally entered into an agreement with the Township of Teaneck to handle all emergency 9-1-1 calls as of yesterday, July 1, at 9 a.m. for Teaneck. Bergen County Communications began to handle the emergency 9-1-1 calls after a seamless transition from Teaneck dispatch to Bergen County dispatch.

“Bergen County is excited to welcome and work with Teaneck for their 9-1-1 needs through the County Communications and Public Safety Operations Center,” said County Executive Tedesco. “This is exactly what the operations center was built for -- to give municipalities the opportunity and ability to share services through the County at an affordable price so taxpayers can benefit from the savings while maintaining safe and efficient emergency response.”

The addition of Teaneck will bring the total number of communities being served for emergency 9-1-1 by Bergen County to 22. Teaneck will be the largest community, with nearly 40,000 residents, to join with Bergen County for their 9-1-1 needs. Teaneck currently averages 22,000 emergency 9-1-1 calls annually. The current contract is for one year at an annual cost of $29,832 (.75 per capita).

The Operations Center offers many benefits to handling emergency operations within the county. State of the art technology allows responders to send caller information in a fast and organized manner which allows for a more quick and efficient response. The Operations Center currently handles nearly 75,000 emergency 9-1-1 calls and more than 231,000 total emergency and administrative calls for service each year and is the back up 9-1-1 answering point for all municipalities.

Any municipalities interested in having the county conduct its 9-1-1 dispatch should contact Frank DelVecchio, Director of the Bergen County Public Safety Operations Center, at 201.785.8510.
